Cynthia Spellman, Psychiatrist in Albany
“I holistically blend conventional psychiatry with complementary therapies. The aim is to empower you to maximize your wellness and emotional wellbeing by addressing the root causes of your symptoms - and to provide a supportive space for you to make things right again. You want to be the healthiest you can be- mind, body, and spirit - without putting your privacy at risk. No worries here! I use paper-only records and do not contract with and/or bill insurance companies. After paying privately, you can submit claim forms to your insurance to get reimbursement for your out-of-network coverage.

“I have been working in mental health since 2007, starting on an inpatient setting working side by side with a psychiatrist and learning very much about psychiatry and medication management. As I became more comfortable after getting experience in an inpatient setting, outpatient and ER setting, I then moved on to a mental health clinic and was seeing many ages from 5-80 and was providing medication management for a seriously persistently mental health population in an OMH clinic. My experience is extensive and have also worked in the private sector treating all ages and all mental health diagnoses.

A Psychiatrist in Albany County is a qualified medical doctor who specializes in treating mental health issues and diagnosable disorders.

Some psychiatric practitioners in Albany County specialize in age groups (so check for Albany County child psychiatrists or adolescent psychiatrists in Albany County). Those who work with the elderly are called geriatric psychiatrists or geropsychiatrists.

Other related specialties include psychopharmacology (certain states license Psychopharmacologists), psychiatric genetics and neuroimaging.

Psychiatric nurses in Albany County, or mental health nurses, specialize in nursing care for people with mental illness or mental distress. Albany County Psychiatric nurses receive training in psychological therapies (such as CBT), building therapeutic alliance with clients and dealing with challenging behavior. Importantly, they are trained to administer psychiatric medication (or 'psychiatric meds') and, in very limited ways, to prescribe meds.
