Psychotherapy and Psychopharmacology: Accurate diagnosis is paramount in psychiatry, and this requires adequate time, in order to develop rapport and understanding. For treatment, I apply the various tools of psychodynamic-expressive-psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and, when medically indicated, I may recommend, carefully prescribe, and monitor psychotropic (or psychoactive) medication (psychopharmacology/pharmacotherapy), across all diagnostic categories.
In psychotherapy, I work in collaboration with the patient, to better identify the emotional patterns, the expectations of oneself and others, the modes of relating to others, and the modes of interpreting experience. Goals include overcoming one's hampering inhibitions, discovering and exploring new ways of being, and broadening one's emotional horizons.
In psychopharmacology, the appropriate use of these powerful and effective medications requires a careful, methodical approach, given each patient's unique life circumstances, genetic background, biomedical status, and preferences. .....
