I am double board-certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. I believe in using both medication when indicated as well as therapy. I was trained in CBT and was given the Excellence in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy during my residency program. I use supportive therapy with each client I see. During my residency I served as Chief Resident and was awarded the Overall Excellence in Psychiatry Award as well as the Clinical Excellence Award.

I am a dual Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health and Family Nurse practitioner with ample experience working in health care. I have a special interest in the overlap of mental and physical health. Becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner is my fourth career. I am a medical doctor from another country and after being re-inserted into the United States health system as a registered nurse and, subsequently, a family nurse practitioner, I had the opportunity to take care of and treat several people with mental health needs.

Dr. Maurice-Butler, Thamar DNP, PMHNP- BC ARNP, FNP- BC. As a Psychiatric provider, it is my goal to identify, address, and modify conditions, restricting patterns and behaviors that impede function and inhibit growth. My philosophy is Bio-psycho-social; I recognize the dynamic nature of the human condition and maintain the express purpose of promoting personal responsibility, growth, and development. I view each therapeutic session as an opportunity to facilitate a process of increasing awareness and consciousness. We believe that illuminating obstacles is the first step to removing them.

When working with me, we are a team; I will cheer your wins and help you hold the losses. Like other providers, I can easily prescribe medications, but my holistic approach also investigates and develops a clear understanding of diagnosis, medication, and treatment. The possible time expectancies are 55-60 minutes for an initial appointment and 25- 30 for medication follow-ups. I have an open policy regarding emails with a turnaround answer of less than 10 hours and a standard eight-hour prior cancellation. I use a combination of the Carlat Podcast, Doximity, the Neuroscience Education Institute (NEI), Psych Congress, and ADDitude.
