My approach is based on integrative psychiatry, which uses medications, therapy and complementary medicine to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. I address the combined impact of sleep, lifestyle, relationships, nutrition and chronic medical conditions on well-being, and use cutting edge tools like genetic testing to guide personalized treatment with medication and supplements. I consider the patient’s cultural background in my assessments and I can provide treatment in Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian. My goal is to help my patients create lasting changes and build vitality, resilience and purpose in life.

There is nothing worse than hearing that alarm clock day in and out, only to wake up feeling like you didn’t sleep at all. All the thoughts begin to flood in, your “to-do’s”, this or that meeting or appointment. You haven’t even made it out the door before feeling completely overwhelmed, defeated, or maybe even hopeless. Depressed, anxious, moody, or irritable may be words that describe how you’re feeling; perhaps your loved ones have said similar things. I have helped countless others like yourself, and I am confident that together we can get you feeling better. I treat a wide range of mental health disorders adolescents and adults

Pursuing treatment for mental health symptoms can take significant courage, humility, and vulnerability. We feel fortunate to have the opportunity to engage, connect, and heal. Many people struggle at times with mood or anxiety symptoms, whether of relatively recent onset or since earlier in life. We appreciate the opportunity to help patients address their symptoms and engage in a collaborative and hopefully productive treatment process. We work with adults and primarily treat depression, anxiety (including worry, panic), bipolar, trauma, adjustment disorders, stress, OCD, ADHD, etc.

As a psychiatrist, I endeavor to facilitate the growth of individual mental, emotional, and spiritual capacities, whether by optimizing effective medication for managing mood and anxiety symptoms or encouraging engagement in purposeful psychotherapy (or both). Practicing psychiatry over the past 14 years has guided me toward a realization that humanity is beautiful and that I am priviledged to have the opportunity to develop meaningful patient relationships, which, through the passage of time along with individual effort, promote personal acceptance, advancement, contentment, and peace.

Life can certainly bring unexpected challenges and dilemmas. People may encounter challenges around relationships, identity, or life path. Mood or anxiety symptoms can also emerge. People might face circumstances they didn’t ask for and through no fault of their own. Sometimes people feel stuck or aren’t operating in the way they’d like to be, and they might not even be sure why. As a board certified psychiatrist, I have trained and specialized in the assessment and management of mental health conditions. I enjoy engaging and collaborating with patients in addressing their situation on their unique life journey.

ADHD Psychiatrists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
