I believe that each person maintains an inherent capacity to heal and grow. The challenges we face in our day-to-day survival make it easy to defer our personal needs in favor of crisis management. Depending on our personal history, this can lead us to become weary, angry, and detached – a combination that breeds the shame and loneliness that so often contribute to our suffering. If you're feeling stuck in this cycle, then you're in the right place.

There is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think..." I became a nurse practitioner while working inpatient as a psychiatric nurse for 5 years. I am proud of my profession in nursing, as I believe that nurse practitioners bring a unique perspective to this field. Being fully present, and actively listening to understand what a patient is trying to convey is invaluable. My goal is to allow you to feel heard.

Have you found yourself pondering the following questions recently on your journey to healing? How can I achieve well-being despite my psychiatric condition? How can I transform my outlook on life? How can I take control of my life? How can I let go of fear and eliminate barriers to achieving mental stability? What is the meaning of my life? How can I stand in my power and true authenticity? What can I do to support my mental health?

I've been a practicing psychiatric nurse since 1994 and as Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner since 2005. Many areas of treatment have included mood disorders, anxiety, PTSD/trauma related issues and eating disorders. Working at many different levels of care, including inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient has allowed me to see mental health at a variety of intensities. I believe in the motivation of the individual and integrating with their health care team to allow the individual to function at the highest level. We are using Zoom to provide quality and safe tele-health sessions.

Hello, I know how hard it can be living with mental illness. I am here to help guide you through the ups and downs and to ultimately find a treatment that will allow you to live with much fewer symptoms. If you can't sleep because your mind is racing, if you feel too depressed to get out of bed, if you just don't get any joy out of life anymore, if you experience debilitating panic attacks, and get more irritable at times, whatever issues you might have. We will work on them together. I want you to enjoy your life and live your passions. Life is too short to settle for less.

Mental health is as important as physical health because it affects our thoughts, feelings, and actions. When our mental health is affected, it can influence how we see ourselves, relate to others, and make decisions.

I diagnose and treat a wide variety of mental health conditions in a safe, compassionate, and empathetic environment. In some cases, I may provide some adjunct, but limited Individual Therapy. The thing I want you to most understand - there is hope. I am a big proponent of helping clients see the end-goal of mental health treatment - to feel and function better. There are two things a client must do to accomplish this goal. One, effective therapy; and two, the right mental health medication(s). And in case you are wondering - yes, I believe you are normal!

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
