Experiencing trauma can take a significant toll on the mind and body. You may find yourself constantly feeling unsafe or on edge, or perhaps you shift between feeling overwhelmed to feeling numb/dissociated. Perhaps your mind continues to replay difficult past experiences, or perhaps you have noticed repeating patterns that keep you feeling stuck despite efforts to change. Trauma can consist of many events, including childhood abuse, emotional neglect, sudden grief/loss, rejection, and much more. So many of us are impacted by unprocessed trauma, though we may not always recognize it as the cause of our emotional difficulties.
As a trauma therapist, I pull from evidence-based treatments such as NARM, schema therapy, somatic experiencing, and cognitive behavioural therapies. These modalities are designed to help trauma survivors (re)experience safety, process unresolved trauma, and (re)connect to their authentic selves and to others.
