Liz Kay holds a Masters of Social Work and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor. She has extensive experience working with transitional age youth (15- 30 years old) with substance use and other mental health concerns. Her clinical skills have been informed by her work a variety of settings including residential treatment, outreach, non-profit agencies and provincial health. She is the past clinic head of the BC Children's Hospital Provincial Youth Concurrent Disorders Program where she was supporting assessments, providing treatment and providing treatment and educating students and mental health professionals around the Province.
Liz is trained and proficient in a variety of evidence based treatment approaches including Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Informed CBT, EMDR, Emotion Focused Therapy, and Emotion Focused Family Therapy.
Liz has been described as a warm, dedicated and collaborative clinician. She believes that the people she works with, although struggling, have tremendous capacity for growth. Knowing that individuals and families may be reluctant to be entering counselling, Liz works on developing and maintaining a strong therapeutic relationship.
