Niyamma is a play on the Sanskrit word “Niyam”, which means “principle”. Everyone comes from a different walk of life, different circumstances, and that is why the “principles” which they follow for fulfillment, enlightenment, and happiness vary. At Niyamma Therapy, a variety of modalities and approaches are used. I personally am trained in DBT , but also incorporate CBT, Narrative, Client Focused Therapy, and other approaches.
DBT: An evidence-based approach that helps people learn/use new skills & regulate emotions to build lives they feel are worth living ; CFT: the client & therapist collaborate to identify & fulfill goals which are important to client. NT: this approach helps the client explore the circumstances which shaped their thoughts/behaviours.
A life-long passion for helping & healing others led Devyani to pursue a career in counselling. With prior experience working with at risk children and youth and in the field of addictions, Devyani now works as a psychotherapist working with clients who struggle with various mental health, professional, and relational concerns.
