Throughout my 25 years as a therapist, I have focused on issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, self harm, suicidal thoughts, and oppositional/defiance. Many of my clients also describe themselves as Neurodivergent. No matter what the issues may be, I find that people often start therapy because they feel stuck and are seeking ways to move forward. We work together to develop concrete goals such as making a new friend or just getting out of bed everyday. Other clients in my practice are searching for a safe place to work through their pain. Whatever your starting place, you are welcome here.

We all need a place where we can feel safe with ourselves and our emotions. Maybe you feel lost or just don't feel like yourself anymore. Perhaps you are struggling with crippling anxiety, the effects of trauma, or lack of motivation. Working together we can address these issues to help you live a happier life. Therapy doesn't have to be about changing yourself, it can be a journey of self discovery. I take a holistic approach to therapy, exploring all dimensions, in order to get a clear concept of you. This helps us implement specific coping skills for you, reframe, and connect you to your inner strengths.

There is wisdom in acknowledging the present and accepting yourself as you are today without judgement but that is easier said than done. In a world filled with uncertainty and constant change learning to adjust might be harder than before. Therapy is about creating the space to process emotions, release burdens, learn to identify behavioral patterns, set goals, reframe your thoughts, regulate emotions, but ultimately learned to adapt to the inevitable change.

Your relationship doesn't feel "right" anymore. You’re disconnected, and it’s been so long since you’ve felt that way about each other. Maybe you're feeling misunderstood, hurt, and lonely. Maybe you’re struggling with something that recently happened--or that happened a long time ago--and your relationship never really recovered. Or it’s been a long, slow drifting apart. Whether you’re fighting all the time, or you never even talk anymore, you just keep falling back into the same dysfunctional pattern, and you just don't know how to change it. You’re ready to have a better relationship; it's time for some expert help!

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who enjoys working with families of teenagers. I also work with individuals and greatly appreciate the opportunity to help others. Before becoming a therapist, I was an educator for 11 years and specialized in prenatal through age 5. I typically work with teenagers and anxiety. I also provide group, couples, and family counseling. Although I do not have any specialization certificates, I like to work with grief and trauma (mostly sexual trauma).

Being able to move through life unapologetically is the ultimate goal for many of us; I want to help you identify your voice, find your truth and stand in it boldly!

Let's face it: life is messy. We are all broken people living in a broken world and doing the best that we can. And sometimes our best just doesn't seem to be good enough. We can find ourselves disillusioned and heartbroken and yet we don't know how we wound up here. We long for more out of this life and yet we don't know how to get there. Whether you are grieving a loss, struggling to make a decision, or simply find yourself stuck in a rut, counseling can help you understand not just the origin of your problems but also assist you in developing practical coping skills and solutions.

Counseling provides people with an ability to increase their insight and perspective about themselves. It enables them with appropriate skills to navigate the world around them while caring for themselves. It allows people to learn how to regulate and express their thoughts and feelings in healthy ways. Once someone has the opportunity to process their experiences, they develop the self-efficacy needed to change unhealthy patterns.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
