* Dr. Gavalya is not able to take new patients at the present time.* For the past forty years I have conducted a practice in my private office treating both adults and children in individual and family psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, along with the prescription of medication where indicated. Over these years I have held faculty appointments at both Harvard and UMass Medical schools and have taught medical students as well as trainees in adult and child psychiatry. A major focus of my clinical work and teaching has been the integration of newer psychopharmacologic treatments with psychotherapeutic methods and the setting of appropriate goals for treatment.
I apply knowledge acquired in my medical, psychiatric and psychoanalytic training to understanding a child or adult individually, but also in the context of their family and cultural background.
