Before consulting a professional, most people have already addressed their difficulties as well as they can – but they can only deal with what they know. As a psychoanalyst and psychiatrist, I try to understand people from multiple points of view. I work with my patients to help them get as clear and comprehensive a picture as possible.
I believe that effective treatment requires kindness, understanding, and helping patients have the courage to face emotional challenges. Confidentiality, collaboration, respect for personal experience and autonomy, and potential for change and growth, are also important. I provide comprehensive evaluations and a broad range of personally tailored treatments.
I treat people from diverse backgrounds, including many physicians and mental health practitioners, for a wide variety of matters including anxiety, depression, sexual difficulties, relationship problems, postpartum reactions, parenting problems, etc. I do a great deal of teaching and supervision, and I write articles for both professionals and lay readers.
