I am a licensed physician, board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology. I'm also a fully trained psychoanalyst. After medical school and psychiatric residency at the University of Colorado, I opted for over four additional years of training in intensive psychotherapy (psychoanalysis) beyond what most psychiatrists undertake. While I spend most of my time doing psychotherapy, I also prescribe medications when appropriate. I have a particular interest in treating physicians of all specialties who struggle with work related burnout, depression, or other mental health issues

I am the founder of Balanced Mental Wellness and have been a psychiatric nurse practitioner for over 10 years. I currently consult other practices and speak professionally on psychiatric medication and therapy topics throughout the country. Dr. Kurtz is a compassionate & empathetic Integrative Psychiatrist specializing in treating adults experiencing a variety of psychiatric symptoms. Stemming from her osteopathic medical training, she focuses treatment on the whole person - mind, body & spirit. After her psychiatry residency she completed a fellowship in integrative psychiatry & additional training in nutritional psychiatry. I work with children, adolescents and adults and offer medication management services as well as therapy. I work with individuals, couples, and families from a family systems perspective, having trained extensively in Bowen Family Systems Theory. A Colorado native, I live in Des Moines, Iowa and provide televideo psychiatry throughout both Iowa and Colorado. I negotiate fees with my patients.
