Welcome! I am Dr. Kristopher Kast, a psychiatrist in Nashville, Tennessee. My practice is focused on dynamic therapy, also called psychodynamic or psychoanalytic psychotherapy. This is an evidence-based treatment for a number of problems - including depression, anxiety, and difficulties with relationships or self-esteem regulation - and it is well-suited to understanding and treating complexity. Dynamic therapy is open-ended and may include more frequent sessions. We will work together on a plan that best fits you.

I specialize in guiding young and middle-aged adults through difficult life transitions. Facing new academic or work demands, becoming a parent, or navigating relationship dynamics can present many challenges. I have been in private practice for over 30 years and my best source of referrals are satisfied clients. I work with individuals experiencing all aspects of trauma, grief, bereavement concerns and assist them into recovery. I use a variety of approaches in my therapy with the core being cognitive psychotherapy. I am experienced in marital therapy and assisting individuals to meet their goals. I also have much experience assisting individuals with both depression and anxiety finding healthy coping mechanisms so they can be at their optimum level of functioning. I strive to see clients on a regular basis.

I have been in mental health for over 20 years I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient facilities. I have gained a multitude of knowledge from my clients and their families. I have witnessed many of them suffer in silence making mental health a convenience instead of a necessity. When the medical community understand the mental well being is just as important as physical well being the healing can begin.

I believe we are shaped by our experiences, relationships, and loss over time. As such, all persons will have needs specific to the moment and I aim to provide highly individualized care. I understand that not all situations require medications and I am happy to provide psychotherapy or collaborate with additional therapists in the community.

I work with adults struggling with a wide range of issues by providing assessment and medication management. I serve as the Managing Partner at Knoxville Family Psychiatry and and provide mentoring and guidance to the other nurse practitioners in the practice and how best to serve their patients. In my own practice, I love working with people who are highly motivated and take great joy when they have the opportunity to experience positive change in their lives.
