I am a board-certified adult psychiatrist specializing in treatment of adolescent and adult anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention-deficit / hyperactivity disorder, and trauma-based disorders. I completed my training at Boston University Medical Campus (BUMC) prior to completing before having my psychiatry residency at the University of Connecticut (UConn Health) where I worked in both adolescent and adult mental health clinics.

I am a board certified psychiatrist practicing at HRC Behavioral Health & Psychiatry and practice in both the Chapel Hill and Raleigh locations. Dr. Michael Adelman was drawn to behavioral health because he feels it emphasizes the humanity behind our existence, both individually and communally. Dr. Adelman focuses on children, adolescents, and families with depression with psychosis, depression with suicidality, psychosis with long-acting injectables, and individuals who have suffered a traumatic brain injury.

I am a Board Certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and have been serving in the area since 2013. I have earned my Master’s in Nursing at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. I earned my BA from Meredith College in Raleigh and my Nursing degree from Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia. I have previously worked as a nurse at UNC Hospital Psychiatric Inpatient Units, the WakeBrook Recovery Center and for Easter Seals Home Health. As a Nurse Practitioner I have worked in various outpatient clinics in Raleigh and Durham.

Dr. Nagarajan is passionate about creating safe and healing spaces for people when they are at their most vulnerable. In her practice she upholds Maya Angelou’s wisdom that, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Taking a holistic and collaborative approach with patients, Dr. Nagarajan looks at the biological, psychological and social factors affecting their health to create multimodal treatment plans that consider the whole person and his or her circumstances.

As of 11/27/23 I have No Current Openings for new patients due to a full schedule (I do not keep a waiting list, but feel free to check back after the first of the year). I am a psychiatrist offering medication treatments and/or psychotherapy as appropriate. Most of my patients struggle with anxiety or depression, although I also have broad experience in treating ADHD, bipolar disorder, as well as various issues of life adjustments and relationships. Note that I do not specialize in treating children and adolescents, couples therapy, or addiction treatment. I offer either video or in-person sessions.
