Interests include autism spectrum disorder in patients with co-occurring physiologic illness. She received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Psychiatric Mental Healthcare from University of Missouri, Master of Science in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from University of Illinois, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Illinois Wesleyan University. Dr. Winkler has worked in mental health, which has always been her focus and passion, since 1998.

If a client for instance, has depression and anxiety, we will discuss how it affects their life. Talk about what triggers make it worse, and how they handle the symptoms. For compliance, we collaborate on the best plan of care. I present the options for medications, benefits, alternatives, side effects, and encourage therapy as a great combination with the medication. I am a child and adolescent specialist. My practice centers on medication management and brief therapy. It is important to me that I develop a meaningful relationship with my patients so that I can support their personal success. I'm passionate about the importance of people having easy access to mental healthcare. Before joining the healthcare field, I taught in low-income and underserved communities. Seeing the impact that a lack of mental healthcare had in these areas drove me to return to school and begin a career focused on providing that much-needed care. In my eyes, treatment can significantly increase the quality of life both mentally as well as physically.

I am a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) who has worked in mental health for over 15 years. I've always had an interest in destigmatizing mental health disorders and treating them just like we would treat physical disorders. I have experience working with patients of all ages and work with clients to prescribe and help manage medications. Although my primary focus is medication management I also have training in various therapeutic approaches to provide a more holistic approach in caring for my clients.

I take a collaborative approach with my patients. I like to know what my patients’ goals are so I can tailor the treatment to help them achieve their goals as much as possible. Knowing what’s important to my patients helps me know what treatments to recommend or when to suggest a change to the treatment. I find that patients experience the most success if they are open to talking about their treatment options.
