Dr. Somanath graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with honors, completing a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. He subsequently worked as a software engineer at National Instruments in Austin, Texas, where he developed an interest in neuroscience, and eventually medicine after working with one of the company's clients.

I am a double board-certified Child, Adolescent, & Adult Psychiatrist, as well as Psychotherapist. I believe in taking the time to fully understand each person’s unique situation because one’s state of mind is inseparable from the family and social systems that surround us. Each patient is seen as an individual and encouraged to be an active participant and collaborator in their own treatment planning. For some, this will involve medications, after a thorough discussion of risks, benefits, and side effects. And for others the best course may be to start with psychotherapy or other supportive treatments before meds are considered.

I am a board certified psychiatrist and I specialize in psychotherapy with adults. I also prescribe medication, when indicated, either in combination with psychotherapy or alone. I am double board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and general adult psychiatry, specializing in anxiety, ADHD, and insomnia. I work with patients of all ages from my private practice in Westwood and have extensive clinical experience from medical training at UCI, residency at Harbor-UCLA, and fellowship training at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior.
