In my practice, you'll find a safe therapeutic space to explore your inner conflicts and a framework for discovering the answers and deeper understanding you seek. I believe strongly in minimizing medication use when possible and optimizing the many facets of life that contribute to emotional wellbeing. Through additional psychoanalytic training after finishing residency, I've grown a deep appreciation for listening dynamically to patients rather than focusing merely on symptoms that fit a diagnosis. I'm a firm believer in that our therapeutic relationship is equally, if not more, important than the medication or intervention used.

Dr. Ricardo Cáceda’s treatment philosophy is to take advantage of the most effective treatments available to go beyond symptom reduction, aiming to help individual patients to recover their level of function and to have a fulfilling personal, familial and work life. His extensive experience in biological psychiatry provides him with a strong background on biological treatments, which he combines with a solid psychotherapy approach to provide an integral and individualized treatment for his patients. The combination of psychotherapy approaches allows for long lasting changes in factors predisposing to depression and anxiety.

Working together, I can provide you with a comprehensive evaluation and suggestions for going forward. In many cases, Motivational Interviewing and other types of psychotherapy can deliver substantial improvements. Hello, my name is Dr. Pavel Filimonov, M.D. and I am a Holistic Psychiatrist. I am a bit different because I don't limit myself to just writing prescriptions and using talk therapy. I integrate Eastern healing techniques with the best researched principles of Western medicine, combining these elements to evoke change in the system as a whole--physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. This combined approach helps me to deal with my patients' anxiety, fear and overwhelment in a much more efficient way, markedly REDUCING NEED FOR MEDICATIONS. *IMPORTANT: Insurance pays ONLY a small portion of Holistic treatment.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Psychiatrists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
