As a licensed medical doctor and practicing psychiatrist, I specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of mental conditions. As an osteopathic, physician, my philosophy incorporates a complete integration of the mind and the body. My training, both in psychopharmacology (medication) and psychotherapy (talk therapy), helps me incorporate both treatment modalities in my practice. This approach also relates to work I do in public mental health where I work part time providing mental health care to the homeless, severely mentally ill and LGBT at risk youth.

My training in addiction and sex therapy enhances my ability to treat an array of mental health issues including but not limited to depression, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, OCD, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and personality disorders.
Mental health and its treatment are stigmatized, rendering the initiation of treatment intimidating for many. That is why I provide a professional and empathetic space for consultation and treatment; everyone should be comfortable seeking the care they feel they need. I also utilize telepsychiatry when appropriate to increase access to care. I am dual board certified in adult general psychiatry and addiction. I have also specialized in clinical training in sex therapy and I am affiliated with NYU's Program in Human Sexuality. I offer both treatment for patients and supervision for other mental health professionals.

I offer combined medication management and psychotherapy. The Whole Circle approach is informed by a reverence for the power of narrative and the transpersonal. My holistic training in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy allows me to create a safe space that includes a spiritually-intentional set and setting for each journey I facilitate. My background in narrative therapy informs my view of structures of oppression and modern power and helps empower those who consult me to take primary authorship in writing the story of their lives. My approach to psychiatry is simple. I look at your life thoroughly; from your DNA up through your relationships. Problems in any of the layers of life can cause mental health issues. Once the areas of concern are identified, I will construct a treatment plan to address it. My approach comes from years of working through challenging patient cases as a provider, and personally being on the receiving end of overlooked issues in my own care. I cannot promise to have all of the answers, but I can promise to help you gain insights into the areas of concern in your mental health.

ADHD Psychiatrists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
