I am a child/adolescent and adult psychiatrist specializing in psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy, when needed, in a private practice setting.

I am a board-certified Adult Psychiatrist with extensive experience treating Depression, Anxiety, and other Mood disorders. I work closely with my clients to create personalized treatment plans that include therapy, management of co-occurring medical conditions, and prescribing psychotropic medications when appropriate. For the last 20 years, I have been providing services at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Bryan Psychiatric Hospital, Albert Einstein Medical Center (AEMC), various Community Mental Health Centers in Philadelphia. I currently provide out-patient services at Psychiatric Associates of Pennsylvania.

Trained at Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and the University of Pennsylvania, I have been in the clinical practice of psychiatry, psychotherapy, and psychopharmacology in the Philadelphia area for over forty years, and provide crisis-intervention, consultation and short- and long-term therapy for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I have extensive experience in the treatment of psychosomatic and eating disorders, depression and suicidal behavior, anxiety, psychosis, sexual and physical abuse, and addictions, among other problems, and also provide consultation and ongoing clinical supervision for mental health professionals of all disciplines.

Dr. Tara Thompson, DNP, PMHNP-BC is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner providing care to patients in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. Dr. Tara started her career as a therapist after earning a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology degree from Eastern University where she was trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy and systemic therapy. She later decided to change direction and pursue an education and career in nursing where she worked in cardiology and neurology.

I work with individuals, couples and in groups to help you move in new directions and explore new ways of interacting with others. Being in therapy is sometimes challenging. I will strive to help you verbalize your thoughts and feelings about what happens in your life, as well as what happens between you and me in our evolving relationship. The challenge will be to learn from whatever happens in this experience and to move toward the goals we have worked together to define for you. We will work in partnership to design the plan that will achieve your best results.
