As an adult and child psychiatrist I provide psychotherapy and medication management services. I see patients with a variety of concerns. I have experience in the treatment of anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, mood disorders, PTSD, addiction, psychosis and more. I also recognizes that many people do not fit into a specific diagnosis but may still feel that they could be getting more out of life. I also specialize in helping these individuals explore their minds in order to achieve a more fulfilling life.

I am a board certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist who works hard to practice psychotherapy and psychopharmacology in both a private & supportive setting. While I strongly believe in pharmacologic interventions backed by empirical evidence, I am a firm believer in the value of therapy & more holistic interventions (exercise, diet, meditation, mindfulness). I understand the importance of shoring up wellness rather than treating illness, and you can expect to spend a significant amount of time discussing the importance of sleep, fitness and nutrition, in addition to tackling deeper psychological issues.

I have extensive experience in treating those with complex disorders, especially individuals with bipolar disorder, OCD, and psychotic disorders, as well as eating disorders, gender and sexual issues, autism spectrum disorder, and other developmental disorders, and perhaps my favorite condition to treat, ADHD.
The ideal client is quite simply someone who truly wants help. Someone who is willing to work where the goal is to live the best life, reach the goals one seeks, and to enjoy the journey. The details of how that is done of course depends on the individual's station at the time one seeks help.

I have worked in psychiatry for many years and feel that it's my life purpose! I don't consider this to be a job, it's what I love to do. I've worked in a variety of settings (inpatient and outpatient) with people of all ages, which has given me the expertise and the courage to unravel the complex mental health conditions that inflict so many. I always make mental health simple for my clients, and work with patients to find an approach that feels right for them. Whether you're experiencing ADHD, depression, anxiety, mood swings, or something entirely different, I promise it will help to reach out!

I take a holistic approach to psychiatric care. I first seek to understand a client's goals and meet them where they are. Treatment plans often vary significantly between clients. I feel it is important we utilize whatever strengths a client has and develop plans that integrate one's values, spiritual beliefs, physical limitations, and culturally relevant beliefs. I feel compassion and empathy are some of the most important qualities in this field and I am grateful to have gotten the chance to work with so many wonderful people.

I am a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with over ten years of direct patient care experience in a diversity of roles, including diagnosing and treating mental health disorders in group practice, community settings, and via telehealth. As an adult psychiatrist who has chosen to pursue further specialization in child and adolescent psychiatry, I provide medication management and psychotherapy to patients of all ages. I have expertise in women’s mental health, burn out, anxiety/OCD, mood disorders, ADHD, psychosis, PTSD, and addiction. As a former teacher, my goal is for my patients to feel understood, as well as to better understand their own conditions and their treatment. I have a particular interest in treating children, young adults/transitional age youth, and parents. I believe that for our children to do well, we must first support their caregivers.

ADHD Psychiatrists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
