Some may have ineffective coping techniques for dealing with stress, emotions, or life issues, and will benefit from psychiatric interventions like medication management and psychotherapeutic interventions, such as counseling or therapy. I provide psychoeducation to help client understand their diagnosis, treatment alternatives, and coping methods, allowing them to actively participate in their recovery.

I am a California Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 8 years of experience. I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Nurse Leader from the University of San Francisco and received my Post-Graduate Degree from the University of South Alabama as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. In 2013, I was awarded the prestigious Caring Nurse Award in recognition for my exceptional care and advocacy of patients.

The interactions that occur between our bodies, minds, and environment have always piqued our curiosity. This curiosity has taken us on a plethora of excursions as we have learned how we come to be such distinct individuals. Martin Cunanan is a dual board-certified psychiatric-mental health and adult-gerontology HIV/AIDS-focused nurse practitioner. He has extensive experience working with patients from diverse backgrounds. He has worked at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and with other non-profit organizations in the Bay Area. In addition to general psychiatry services, Martin enjoys working with patients coping with depression, anxiety, trauma and substance abuse.
