I am a board-certified psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. I specialize in medical treatment and psychotherapy for depression, anxiety, anger issues, self-esteem issues, challenges with emotional intimacy, problems coping with stress, and obsessions. These symptoms often present themselves when individuals describe feeling "stuck" in their lives. They may have difficulties avoiding repetitive and unhealthy patterns that cause emotional turmoil and distress. I have found it is most therapeutic and cost-effective to provide psychotherapy combined with medication management (when appropriate).

I believe that medications should never be the sole mode of treatment for mental health disorders. Counseling should be provided to help individuals learn to manage or minimize their symptoms. Individuals often need to learn new skills, such as anger management or problem solving, to help them interact with others more successfully.

I am a Board Certified Psychiatrist in New York City. I have trained in Psychodynamic psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family and Marital therapy, as well as Psychiatric Medication Management. I started my career in Havana, Cuba where I obtained a doctorate degree in medicine in 2007. That same year, I relocated to the US where I continued my studies and earned a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio in 2017 and dual certification as a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner in 2023. Being raised in a family of doctors and nurses, loving science and caring for people encourages me to follow this pathway.

I am a holistic practitioner who believes in each individual's ability to improve themselves. I am also a Duke University-trained medical doctor, a therapist, a researcher, a husband and a father. I strive to bring the knowledge and experience that I continue to acquire in these roles into my approach to the practice of medicine. With 20+ potent years of medical experience, Charles is an alumnus of Saint Louis University holding a Master’s in Nursing. He has championed different branches of medical sciences, including Oncology, ICU, and community mental health. Charles has marked his expertise in treating individuals across all ages, from 5 to adults. I am Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry and have been practicing since 2005. I completed my residency from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts and my Fellowship in Addictions from the Robert Johnson Wood Foundation.
