I am available for diagnostic evaluations for ADHD and anxiety disorders, to prescribe and manage associated medications, and to provide referrals to additional therapies, such as mental health therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy.
The decision to seek evaluation and medication support for your child is complex and often emotional. I desire to help families understand all options in a supportive, caring environment where both children and their caregivers feel comfortable in asking questions and sharing concerns. In planning for your child's support, I understand that there are many factors to consider, including family dynamics, school performance, peer relationships, behaviors, nutrition, sleep, and overall wellness. I believe collaborating with families to create a well considered plan is imperative for successful outcomes.

First, we'll start by discussing your goals, and then we'll work on ruling out underlying medical problems that may be causing your fatigue, anxiety, or depression.
Do you feel like you're burning the candle at both ends and there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done? You're doing your best, but you have a hard time keeping up with your daily tasks and responsibilities. Are you burnt out, tired, and stressed out? Do wake up tired and lash out on those who love you? I've been there.

NOW ACCEPTING new virtual patients with same-week appointments. The thought of being all alone in a negative cycle that may be a result of anxiety, trauma, depression, unhealthy coping skills, and/or environmental stressors can be daunting. The treatment for most mental illnesses is effective therapy. However, some need a little more than therapy. How would you know if you could benefit from medications? If you have been suffering for a long time in a limited and/or negative cycle, most likely your brain will need some help; the right psychotropic medication will help improve your symptoms.

From time to time, our lives take an unexpected turn for the worse. We may suffer from emotional illness, or experience conflict, loss, misfortune. Trauma and chronic disability may affect our loved ones or us. Life adversities may temporarily overwhelm our ability to carry on. We may turn pessimistic, doubtful, and hopeless. Feel demoralized, worried, and anxious. Suffer sadness, distress, and anguish. Become angry and resentful. Feel distrustful and quarrel with others. At such times, we could benefit from treatment, including psychotherapy treatment, including psychotherapy, and prescription medicine.

Anxiety Psychiatrists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
