I was trained in CBT and was given the Excellence in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy during my residency program. I use supportive therapy with each client I see. After 24 year of service I retired from the US Army as a MSG / E8 in 2013. I completed both by BSN and MSN from Regis College in Weston, MA and am a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I treat adults with mental health disorders, such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, ADHD and PTSD. I also treat adults with substance use disorders and behavioral addictions. I believe in individualizing treatment based on each person's needs. I offer medication management visits, complemented with elements of Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and psychodymanic psychotherapy. I also offer psychotherapy visits without medication management, if someone is not in need of medications.

I have almost two decades of experience as a nurse practitioner and therapist treating individuals with mental health struggles. I enjoy working with women's mental health issues including postpartum, motherhood journeys, fertility struggles, PMDD and relationships. I also enjoy working with as a gender affirming provider and trauma informed practice. I offer medication or medication and therapy to treat the whole person as each journey is different. I am a psychiatrist and Harvard Medical School faculty member with expertise treating a wide range of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, substance use, and psychosis. I have additional expertise in grief/bereavement, supporting patients through complex medical decisions, advanced care planning, and anxiety disorders. I can see patients who are located in New York or Massachusetts via secure video platform or in person at my office near Harvard Square.

I am a board certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and as such, I can prescribe medication, if necessary, as an adjunct to psychotherapy. I worked in various healthcare including inpatient and outpatient settings providing both psychiatric and medical care. I use integrated approach to care with aims to empower individual’s authenticity to make proactive decisions and enhance his or hers ability to effectively cope with the full variety of life’s circumstances.

I am interested in helping individuals across the lifespan explore suitable, person-centered treatment options for anxiety, depression and PTSD find the right combination of medication management and psychotherapy. Julie Paul is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner & Head of FamilyWell’s Psychiatry Services. With over a decade of clinical experience treating pregnant and postpartum individuals with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, combined with her expertise as a certified nurse midwife, Julie will provide you with a holistic and empathetic approach to your mental well-being. Julie is also a mom of two and a survivor of postpartum depression and anxiety. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with her dogs and paddle boarding in the local lakes.
