I have an eclectic style in psychotherapy, with a psychodynamic focus, as well as administer medication when necessary. I will incorporate techniques to help with changing habits, lifestyle, and to encourage healthier coping skills. I also specialize in treating people with trauma in their background which is also helpful during this stressful time of forced isolation and collective fear.

I treat adult patients for a wide variety of mental health issues or disorders. I also welcome patients, who do not have diagnosable psychiatric disorders but are interested in their personal or professional growth. I am a general adult psychiatrist, practicing individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, couple psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and neuropsychiatry. My approach can be described as eclectic and practical. I routinely treat people with mood disorders, anxiety disrders, addiction disorders, and personality disorders.

My goal is to provide patient-centered, individualized, and holistic care for my patients. I believe that a focus and orientation towards mental wellness is more beneficial than addressing client's symptoms through a mental illness lens. Shared decision making and collaboration are important values in my practice in order to meet patients where they are at. Clinical assessments are considered through a biopsychosocial model to consider the full picture. My intent is that patients learn more about themselves to integrate learned tools to cope and thrive in their lives beyond our therapy and/or medication management sessions.

Guided by my belief that authentic, meaningful relationships drive high quality care, I partner with our patients and families to first treat psychiatric symptoms, and then move into a preventative approach. I help my patients, both kids or adults, to discover and build on their own strengths, educate them about the science behind how their brains work, and then provide them with the necessary tools to become their own health expert. I refuse to believe that my patients cannot get better, and I work tirelessly with you to help you build a better life.

My professional background is Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry. I am also board certified in Forensic Psychiatry. I am currently on faculty at NYU School of Medicine and I have been an attending psychiatrist at the NYU Medical Center, where I worked for three years as the Director of the Young Adult Unit. I specialize in treating children, teens and adults. I have extensive experience in the evaluation and treatment of many areas of concern including but not limited to anxiety, OCD, depression, attentional disorders, acting out behaviors as well as issues concerning relationships, career and identity.

I am a Board-Certified Psychiatrist (MD) and NASM-Certified Nutrition Coach / Personal Trainer who treats adults (ages 20s-40s) struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, relationships, body image/eating issues, life adjustments, loss, insomnia, panic, and OCD. With a warm and practical approach to psychotherapy, I prescribe medications gently and only when necessary. My multiple certifications by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) enable me to offer comprehensive lifestyle-oriented psychiatric treatment incorporating coaching on physical exercise, nutrition, yoga, sleep, & meditation to aim for optimal wellness.

As a provider, my goal is to facilitate your connection to your own strength, resilience, wisdom, and joy through holding space for the safe exploration of your inner world. I believe that medication is a valuable tool when used consciously and consensually, but is rarely the only support we need. My approach to care is sex-positive, identity-affirmative, and growth-centered, emerging from a position of non-judgement, gentleness, and curiosity. I have extensive experience in working with patients who are struggling with Depression, Anxiety and Relationship issues. I provide both psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. I have a particular expertise in working with patients with concurrent medical issues. This includes women struggling with REPRODUCTIVE ISSUES, including infertility, antepartum and postpartum depression, menapause. I also specialize in patients with chronic medical illnesses including but not limited to Multiple Sclerosis, Cancer and end of life issues.

I am a Yale-educated, Cornell- and Columbia-trained psychiatrist (MD) with a PhD in neuroscience, providing customized treatment based on individual needs. I am committed to improving the wellness of my patients through a flexible and responsive approach. I specialize in psychotherapy and psychopharmacology for anxiety, OCD, ADHD, mood, and personality disorders. I am well versed in CBT, IPT, DBT, and psychodynamic psychotherapy (insight-oriented psychotherapy). I'm board certified (ABPN) in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry. I believe that effective treatment requires getting to know patients as individuals.

Jocelyn Soffer, M.D. is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist in private practice, offering psychotherapy and psychopharmacology treatment. She received her B.A. in Philosophy from Yale University, and her M.D. from the Yale University School of Medicine. She completed her Adult Psychiatry Internship and Residency at Mount Sinai, serving as chief resident, with Board Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She also completed a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NYU, and is now on faculty there as Clinical Assistant Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, teaching undergraduates.

Hi! I’m a New York City-based double-board certified psychiatrist working with adults, adolescents, and children. My work centers around psychotherapy; including developmentally appropriate psychodynamic, CBT, and play therapies. In addition, my approach to psychiatric medications is to meet individuals and families where they are at. I work with people who want to seek deeper growth and meaning without numbing what makes them human. As for my background – I trained at BU and Mount Sinai, and have worked at both The New School and as lead psychiatrist at the Columbia University Medical Center counseling center.
