I specifically work with adult children of parents that abused substances when they were growing up, and most of my clients still have a relationship with their parents. Whether your parent is now sober or still in active addiction, there is a complexity to the emotions this relationship(s) holds, the grief over what you wish you had with them, and the anger of the choice they have (and often times continue to) made. Due to this complexity and this grief, extra care and knowledge around attachment theory and trauma are required when working with clients that I can provide.
I can assist you in healing these attachment traumas and hopefully healing a relationship with this parent if that is what you wish by creating a safe and warm environment for you and then act as a guide as we process past experiences using IFS and/or EMDR trauma therapies. I also work with those managing chronic illnesses on a daily basis.
The journey to being my best self started with a scary phone call asking for help, but it was best thing I ever did. I'd encourage you to make the call. Processing Deconstruction & Religious Trauma
This is a support group for anyone who may be navigating religious deconstruction. One of the #1 complaints I hear when working with clients in the midst of deconstruction is feeling isolated and missing the feeling connection. This group exisits to provide a space to process however you may need, ask questions, grieve, and connect. This process group will provide a space for you to share & process your struggles with others. Group topics include: trauma education, isolation and support in the midst of deconstruction, asking questions with safe people, developing your identity and boundary setting.
