"Normal is nothing more than a setting on a dishwasher." -Whoopie Goldberg. Remembering that normal is a myth when it comes to being human helps ease the harsh self criticism that often interferes with exploring our inner worlds with kindness and curiosity. This is the posture I take as I work alongside adults and teens who want to deepen their relationship with themselves and thrive despite circumstances. They may find themselves struggling with relationships, ongoing emotional disturbance, feelings of depression and/or anxiety, trauma (past or present), and difficult life transitions among other concerns.
I believe a person's subconscious mind and history of relational experiences form a map that helps one survive in their unique world. My work with you will involve being curious about that map and its unique design which will open up opportunities to forge new trails so you don't have to keep returning to the ones that keep you stuck and frustrated.
I offer psychodynamic talk therapy at my office in Ballard and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) at a horse ranch in Smokey Point, WA. Working with horses in therapy is a great option for those looking for an experiential process or have a trauma history. I am affirming and respectful of people from all traditions, faiths, and sexual orientations.
