Good therapeutic experiences are created through a balance of support and challenge in the context of a good therapeutic relationship. As a therapist, I try to create support by listening carefully, trying hard to understand, highlighting your strengths, validating your experiences, and celebrating your growth. I try to provide challenge by encouraging you to develop insight into your your situation, presenting concerns. thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and considering what, if anything, you want to change about these things.
I specialize in contemporary psychodynamic psychotherapy and behavioral approaches. This means my focus is helping clients understand their presenting problems and themselves, and use this to make concrete changes in their own lives. I also integrate cognitive behavioral (CBT), emotion-focused (EFT), and solution-focused (SFT) therapy principles.
I know that getting started in therapy can be difficult. It takes a lot of courage and strength to make the first call, let alone the many calls it can take to find a therapist. I am happy to speak with you for 15 minutes to see if we are a good fit. Even if you feel we are, I suggest all my clients meet at least 3 therapists to see with whom they fit best.
