I work with people who, for a variety of reasons, feel stuck. Stuck in anxiety, stuck in a mood they cannot escape, stuck in a job or relationship they do not find satisfying, stuck remembering an event or experience they cannot forget, or stuck in a sense that their lives lack movement and a sense of meaningful direction. Psychotherapy with me is process of identifying the pattern that has led to one's feelings of immobilization. Through focusing on thoughts, feelings, dreams, and fantasies, that which was once only faintly noticed is given a voice and expression; leading to a sense of purposefulness and direction.
My practice is psychoanalytically informed though I also incorporate CBT (linking thoughts and feelings to behaviors) and DBT (using specific skills like mindfulness and affective regulation processes) when appropriate. Though I utilize a variety of techniques, my work aims to illuminate the unconscious processes motivating your conscious behaviors.
I am the Director of Clinical Psychology at Mount Sinai's School of Medicine where I treat first responders in the WTC Mental Health Program. I earned my doctorate from The New School, and spent years training at NYC hospitals including Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital.
